Irvine’s legendary litter gang dressed up last week to keep the beach clean.
The group, founded in late 2017, regularly targets particularly litter-rich areas around the city and went to the beach last week. [Thursday, May 27]..
Sandra Hughes, a volunteer with the Irvine Cleanup Crew, said:
Members recently conducted a rubbish poll to launch Keep Scotland Beautiful’s “My Beach, Your Beach” campaign this summer.
By the start of the official bathing season on June 1st, only 220 debris had been recorded on the 200 meter long beach and the Irvine prom, and a snapshot of the local beach debris problem was taken.
However, cigarette butts have been identified as the most common type of litter left on the beach.
