Forma & Cemento and Studio Irvine present Fusto, a collection of minimalist and contemporary pieces that celebrate brutalism, versatility and the infinite variations of concrete. The collection was developed under the artistic direction of marialaura rossiello irvine and leads to a new domestic concrete landscape that strengthens the personality and identity of the brand – passion for concrete – through research projects relating to color and forms of expression.
Derived from the Latin word fustis, fusto is the middle part of the column – the one between the capital and the foundation. Consisting of a console table, bookshelves, coffee tables, a plinth and two dining tables, the Fusto collection is from Studio Irvine to the Form & cement takes inspiration from classical architecture and translates the corrugation of these columns into a column that contains various surfaces to create the pieces of furniture. Volume and proportions are integrated into this timeless geometry, in which art, architecture and design create a world of references through the material.
“Concrete, a material that has always been associated with a structural function and architecture, poses interesting challenges for adaptation to home design and offers answers to many of the requirements of modern life, also from the point of view of durability and the resulting sustainability. ” Comments giorgio la corte, CEO of Forma & Cement. “What began with Marialaura is experimentation and a constant search for the form that should be given to the material so that it remains in its function and aesthetics forever.”
fusto is the series that introduces the new design approach by marialaura rossiello irvine, in which a multi-faceted column grows and changes to create a concrete landscape that is dynamized by the movement of light on the surfaces. “Brutalism has always fascinated me when I was studying architecture in Naples and hovering between the fascination of a malleable material and a rough monolithic aesthetic,” says the artistic director. ‘with studio irvine i have always carried out research in which individual materialism is the protagonist: from marble to clay, experimenting with new languages in the world of product design and interior architecture. The vision is to tell the story of the material based on its technical and productive properties in order to obtain a contemporary sculptural imagery. ‘
