Jenny Sandoval broke her own school record in the 5K race on Saturday when she attended Sound Running’s “The Track Meet” in Irvine. Sandoval, who started fourth on the national team that weekend, ran an automatic time of 15: 58.61 and moved up to third place in Division II. At the beginning of this season at the APU Invitational & Distance Carnival, Sandoval became the absolute leader of the program in the 5 km run with a time of 16: 01.41.
Saturday’s Irvine race was Sandoval’s final vote for the Nationals, where she will compete in both the 10K and 5K races. Sandoval is more than 20 seconds ahead in the 10 km race (32: 58.39). The Cougars are currently number 1 in the country and head coach Jack Hoyt will see Sandoval as a key scorer for the roster in the distance competitions.
The NCAA championships will be held in Michigan May 27-29. Click to view the Nationals Qualifications List Here.
