San Diego Meals Financial institution to distribute groceries and provides to needy residents of South Bay

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – The San Diego Food Bank will be handing out drive-thru-style grocery and toilet paper at Southwestern College on Friday, April 10th.

The event, which aims to help families and low-income seniors in South Bay, is held on campus at 900 Otay Lakes Rd. in Chula Vista from 9 a.m. rain or shine.

Food Bank officials said food and supplies will be given to 1,000 vehicles, subject to availability. Each vehicle / family receives 25 pounds of food and supplies.

According to official sources, the following foods are served: UHT milk, peanut butter, brown rice, canned peaches, canned green beans, canned peas, canned tomato sauce, canned vegetable soup, canned mushroom cream soup, canned salmon, canned pork, a box Granola, pieces of pecan (a pound) and a bag of potatoes. In addition, the participants receive a family package with toilet paper, paper towels and baby wipes.

“Food distribution will be ‘contactless’. Participants stay in their cars with the windows up and food / toilet paper is put directly in the trunk by volunteers, ”said Food Bank officials.

Food Bank officials indicate that attendees must meet certain income guidelines in order to receive the food and supplies (table below).
