Dezeen Showroom: Studio Irvine developed the S 5000 Retreat office chair system based on a design by its late founder James Irvine for the German furniture manufacturer Thonet.
The S 5000 Retreat collection offers a mix of sofa and chair units with tubular steel legs and high backrests that offer comfort and privacy in the workplace.
The collection includes a single-seater unit and a privacy screen
The seating system is a revision of the S 5000 sofa that Irvine designed 15 years ago based on a number of Thonet pieces from the 1930s.
Irvine’s wife, architect Marialaura Rosiello-Irvine, now runs Studio Irvine and has optimized the design for an office environment, adding tables, pillows and power sockets.
The chairs are equipped with integrated sockets
“Despite its rigorous design, the S 5000 Retreat was designed to be both private and creative,” said Rosiello-Irvine.
“It invites you to play with its materials, colors, shapes and dimensions. Even the pillows allow you to mix and match different shades. I like to call it ‘ethical design’ when companies and designers deliberately examine where they are investing and how products are.” created. “
Tables are connected to the tubular metal base
The modules are available in versions with one, two or three seats and accessories such as a privacy screen.
