Rubios Truck takes to the streets with free tacos: See Irvine Stop

IRVINE, CA – If you love tacos and freebies: Save the Date!

Rubio’s first Food Truck Tour – a collaboration with SoCal celebrity chef Richard Blais – kicks off this week, handing out free tacos from the new Adventure-Inspired Street Tacos menu at stops, including one in Irvine.

“We invite everyone who has missed travel and adventure to join our food truck for a taste of the most popular travel destinations – Hawaii, New Orleans and New York,” said Ralph Rubio, founder of Rubios Coastal Grill.

Rubio said his restaurant business was too excited to wait for diners to come over and try Blais’ bold new taco creations. “So let’s get them out on the street.”

Blais, a Bravo “Top Chef,” a recurring judge on television shows like “Guy’s Grocery Games,” a James Beard nominee cookbook author, and one of the forces behind Juniper & Ivy in SD’s Little Italy, recently partnered with Rubio and his Crew for this new taco line-up that combines global travel and street food.

The three new Rubio x Blais Street Tacos available to try for free from the Rubio Taco Truck include:

  • Hula Hula Carnitas: Inspired by Blais’ time in Hawaii, with pork marinated in gochujang, achiote and garlic, wrapped in a banana leaf and slowly cooked;
  • Blaised & Glazed Crispy Chicken: The “Blaised & Glazed” taco is a flavorful taco variant of Buffalo Chicken and starts with crispy chicken tossed in Frank’s RedHot® sauce.
  • Ancho Po-Boy Shrimp: Named after New Orleans’ most famous sandwich, this is a modern take on classic New Orleans street food.

The upcoming Orange County Taco Tour stop is detailed below. However, do check Rubio’s Taco Truck Tour blog for any updates or changes.

  • WEDNESDAY 9 JUNE: 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. – OC Championship Stadium, 8272 Great Park Blvd., Irvine, California (Orange County SC vs SD Loyal tickets are available at OrangeCountySoccer.com.)

Other scheduled stops include May 27-31 in San Diego County, June 3-6 in the Inland Empire, and June 9-13 in Los Angeles.

The Rubio chain was founded in San Diego in 1983 as a walk-in food stand owned by then college student Rubio, who fell in love with fish tacos after frequent trips to Mexico. Seafood, steak and chicken are served in tacos, salads, bowls and burritos.

Rubio’s is headquartered in Carlsbad and currently employs more than 3,000 people in more than 150 restaurants in California, Arizona and Nevada. Find your next Rubio here.
