This week we learned that a huge dining room in North County San Diego is delaying its opening due to current times. Sky Deck is delaying opening in Del Mar Highlands town center
The highly anticipated Sky Deck development’s debut at the Del Mar Highlands Town Center has been postponed to February 2021. The 20,000-square-foot, multi-story venue will eventually open over the North County’s Jimbo grocery store and shopping complex. Inside, guests will find 10 restaurants with ramen and Thai food, pizza, tacos and Mediterranean cuisine as well as a cocktail bar and a beer garden. Currently, however, the opening plans are on hold due to the pandemic.

Upscale Orange County restaurant Nick’s Lands on One Paseo
With multiple locations in LA and Orange County, from Pasadena to Laguna Beach, Nick’s has arrived at One Paseo. The restaurant and cocktail bar with a California comfort menu are also moving to State Street in Carlsbad, where they will be part of a new complex due to be completed by next spring.
Landinis Pizzeria opens Italian branch in Pacific Beach
The owners of the established Little Italy pizza business have settled down and opened a full-service restaurant on Garnet Avenue called Scuderie Italia. The restaurant’s menu, designed by Chef Danilo “DJ” Tangalin Jr. (Blade 1936, Bivouac Ciderworks), focuses on Neapolitan style pizza with homemade mozzarella, along with fresh pasta and sauces.
Rapper Wiz Khalifa launches delivery-only restaurant
The Grammy nominated rapper is the latest to enter the ghost kitchen market with HotBox by Wiz, a new delivery-only restaurant that just launched in San Diego. The virtual restaurant’s menu, available through all major delivery apps, includes dishes like grilled seared ends, hot cheetos crusted mac and cheese nuggets, and lemon-pepper-parmesan chips with dipping sauces.
Famous waffle sandwich shop debuts on convoy
The famous waffle sandwich is part of a popular chain that was founded in the Philippines. Now there is a location in Kearny Mesa. The sandwiches specialize in sweet and savory treats with made-to-measure waffles and range from caramel apple pie and s’mores to fried chicken fillings and pizza. Drinks include iced coffee, frozen honeydew, and horchata slushies.
