Oregon State Beavers Rally vs. UC Irvine Anteaters in 11 Innings: Recap Live Updates

The Oregon State Beavers defeated the UC Irvine Anteaters 7-5 in 11 innings on Friday in a three-game non-conference baseball series opener in Irvine, California.

In the first game of an eleven-day eight-game trip, the Beavers (26-10) won an entertaining and dramatic win with a Jacob Melton-led nine-run home race and an eleventh inning two-run single from Matthew Gretler to UC Irvine (22- 12) in the Anteater Ballpark.

The state of Oregon won their fifth game in a row, four of them in late inning rallies, and gave UC Irvine only their second home defeat of the season.

This and that: Abel has not considered the decision in any of his last two starts and last week only survived four innings against Cal and gave up three runs. Abel was dominant for long stretches of the season but also had problems with his control, allowing 38 free tickets – 29 walks and nine hits – in 46 2/3 innings. … This is the sixth meeting between the beavers and anteaters and the first since the NCAA Regionals 2014, when UC Irvine won two of three at Goss Stadium to advance to the Super Regionals. … Oregon State is 11-4 away from Goss Stadium this season. In the 15 games, the offensive hits 297 with 15 home runs, 34 doubles and six triples, and the pitching team has an ERA of 1.99 with just 45 hits in 77 innings. … The closer Jake Mulholland needs a parade to win Oregon’s Jimmie Sherfy for the third highest place in Pac-12 history. … Shortstop Andy Armstrong, beating .346 this season, brings a run of four hits into the run. … The beavers are 18-3 when they first hit.
