Irvine Welsh: Hibernian issued an SFA warning following comments on Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos | out football news

Hibernian received a warning letter from the Scottish Federation after writer Irvine Welsh made comments on her club TV channel.

The creator of Trainspotting was a guest at the Hibernian versus Rangers game in January when he made derogatory comments on Ger’s striker Alfredo Morelos.

The striker had been involved in an ongoing fight with Ryan Porteous of Hibs during the game.

On the broadcast, Welsh said Morelos should have been “broken into small pieces” and shown a red card for a challenge to the Hibs player.

On his official Twitter account, Welsh said after his appearance that his ranting was taken out of context and that his comments were intended as a joke.

Hibernian later removed the footage from their platforms and apologized for the incident.

The Scottish Association opened an investigation into the comments and a warning letter has been issued to the Edinburgh site but no further sanctions will be applied.
