Irvine Welsh campaigns for Trainspotting 3 before its stars are “in a convalescent home”.

Irvine Welsh has said he would like to make a third Trainspotting film before the stars of the film are all “in a convalescent home”.

Trainspotting 2, or T2 Trainspotting as it was stylized, came out in 2017, a solid 21 years after the first iconic adaptation of Welsh’s 1993 novel.

Welsh, now 62, said, “There is no culture now and the relevant things from the past when we had a living culture are ossified and regenerated.

“It took us long enough to upgrade the bottle for number two. They’ll all be at the convalescent home when we’ve got the bottle for number three. “

The original stars are now 49 (Ewan McGregor), 50 (Ewan Bremner), 48 (Jonny Lee Miller), 59 (Robert Carlyle) and 45 (Kelly Macdonald).

The original film, directed by Danny Boyle, was a critical box-office hit and continues to be one of the best British films of all time.

T2 saw the gang reform where McGregors Renton, after leaving the UK and becoming addicted to heroin, was withdrawn to Edinburgh to start a new life in Amsterdam.

It was also greeted critically, although it did not go down as well at the box office.
