Master planned for success

What’s behind Irvine’s success? The OK register refers to the Irvine master plan.

The master plan was intended to counter the unbridled growth of Los Angeles in the 1950s. As the residential expansion neared the Irvine Ranch, the Irvine Company asked famous architect William Pereira to design a brand new city – one with a large university at its core.

She wanted a city that balanced people with employment and space, maintained the highest standards of architecture and design, and focused on education.

The Irvine master plan provided that vision.

This forever changed the course of Irvine and created one of the best cities in America.
