Husband, wife taken into custody after Standoff ends in Irvine – CBS Los Angeles

IRVINE (CBSLA) – The Irvine Police Department arrested a man and a woman on Wednesday after a stalemate near Irvine Center Drive and Spectrum Center Drive.

Our SWAT team members and crisis negotiators resolved this incident peacefully. A man and a woman from the residence were arrested. Our detectives will continue to investigate this incident and our officers will work to reopen the streets.

According to a report from the Orange County Register, a SWAT team negotiated with a reportedly armed man and his girlfriend who are suspected of stealing a vehicle.

The couple allegedly took a vehicle owned by an Irvine resident and led police on a brief chase before returning to the victim’s home in the Village at Irvine Spectrum, where they refused to surrender to authorities.

Police closed Spectrum Center Drive off Irvine Center Drive and Prism and Quasar Drive between Spectrum Center Driver and Irvine Center Drive and reportedly evacuated 15 houses nearby.

Please continue to avoid Irvine Center Drive and Spectrum due to police activity. The spectrum between Irvine Center Drive and Prisma is closed. Quasar is closed between Spectrum Center Drive and Irvine Center Drive.

The suspects’ identities were not immediately disclosed.
