Hib’s sporting director, who is working on an offer, hopes midfielder Jackson Irvine won’t turn it down

Jack Ross, manager of Hibs, says the club is in the process of putting together a contract offer that they hope will entice Jackson Irvine to sign up beyond this season.

The Australian international joined the Capital Club on short notice in January. Although he is now free to consider offers that would turn him away from Leith this summer, Ross is hoping the 28-year-old former Hull City midfielder so wishes after some encouraging talks hanging out.

Since those talks, Sports Director Graeme Mathie has been working to put together solid proposals.

“Jackson encouraged us and I gave it to Graeme who will try to put something attractive in front of him and then we’ll see where we are,” said Ross.

“Hopefully it will be soon. At this stage of the season we can’t let this go on indefinitely, but we have plans, with and without him, so we don’t have undue pressure to complete it one way or another and we may have to do let things go to give us the best possible chance.

“It is important that Jackson encouraged us after these initial discussions. In the short time he was here, he did well for us and we were good of him and he enjoyed it.

“As soon as we have an offer in front of him, we’ll better understand where his mind is and whether we have a chance to keep him longer.”
