Driver killed in fiery Irvine crash resulting in road closure – Orange County Register

A driver was killed in a major accident in Irvine early Wednesday, March 10, in which one direction on a main road was closed for several hours.

A Tesla was traveling south on Culver Drive between Warner Avenue and Barranca Parkway at around 6:40 a.m. when for some reason it went off the road and bumped into a tree, Irvine Sgt. Karie Davies said.

The car caught fire and burned. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene, Davies said.

Davies said it was likely to rain at the time, but it was not known if this contributed to the crash.
