Big West Tournament: UC Santa Barbara Beats Long Beach State; UC Irvine advances

Josh Pierre-Louis had a career height of 24 points when UC Santa Barbara led Long Beach State 95-87 in Thursday’s Big West Conference quarterfinals.

JaQuori McLaughlin added 22 points and Amadou Sow scored 20 points for UC Santa Barbara (20-4). Ajare Sanni had 11 points. Pierre-Louis shot 9 for 10 off the ground. Sow also had nine rebounds.

Long Beach State scored a total of 52 points in the second half, a season high for the team.

Colin Slater scored a career high with 20 points for the beach (6-12). Jadon Jones added 18 points. Chance Hunter had 16 points and Isaiah Washington had 13 points, 10 assists and nine rebounds.

UC Irvine 58, Cal Poly 51

Collin Welp scored 15 points and 10 rebounds to lead UC Irvine to a 58-51 win over Cal Poly in Thursday’s Big West Conference tournament quarter-finals.

Brad Greene had nine points, nine rebounds and five blocks for UC Irvine (17-8).

After UC Irvine beat Cal Poly 34-27 in the first half, both teams scored 24 goals in the second half when UC Irvine took the win. The anteaters’ 24 points in the second half marked a season low for the team.

Alimamy Koroma had 17 points and seven rebounds for the Mustangs (4-20). Colby Rogers added 12 points.

UC Davis 58, Cal State Bakersfield 56

Ezra Manjon scored 16 points, including the grid by a second, and UC Davis beat CSU Bakersfield on Thursday night at the Big West Conference Tournament 58:56.

The fourth-filled UC Davis (10-7) will play in the semi-finals on Friday against the No. 1 seeded UC Santa Barbara.

Taze Moore layup to make it 20 seconds ahead of 56, but Manjon responded with a reverse layup.

Moore led CSUB (15-11) with 12 points and Czar Perry scored 10 points.

Elijah Pepper and Christian Anigwe added 12 points each for the Aggies.
