Asymptomatic Covid testing site in Irvine available for two weeks

Rapid COVID-19 tests for people with no symptoms will be available in North Ayrshire for the next 14 days.

A temporary test site will be established at Unit 24, Bridgegate, Irvine, KA12 8BJ, open daily from Thursday, March 25th through Wednesday, April 7th, from 10am to 6pm.

People who do not have any of the three main symptoms of Covid – a new, persistent cough, high temperature, and loss or change in taste or smell – are encouraged to attend.

There is no need to book, but the website is only for people without symptoms.

Local employers can also take advantage of the service by encouraging their symptomatic employees to get tested.

Health chiefs say this would help reduce the risk of workplace outbreaks and minimize the impact it can have on employee health and business continuity. It is recommended that staff conduct tests twice a week.

People are tested with lateral flow devices (LFD), which people can use to get their results in about 45 minutes.

Those who take the tests are asked to leave after the test is complete instead of waiting for the results, which are usually reported via SMS or email.

All positive cases are then confirmed by a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test, and those who get a positive LFD or PCR test result are asked to self-isolate.

The community testing initiative, run in partnership with the Scottish Government, NHS Scotland, The Army and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, aims to lower local COVID-19 rates and transmissions by identifying positive cases faster as people can spread this virus to others before symptoms appear.

Anyone with COVID-19 symptoms should book a test in the usual way via www.nhsinform.scot or by calling 0800 028 2816.
