An authentic Hakata-style Tonkotsu ramen diner opens in Irvine

IRVINE – Marufuku is popular in the Bay Area for its Hakata-style tonkotsu ramen and is opening its newest location in Irvine, California.

The San Fransico-based concept, co-founded by Eiichi Mochizuki, offers delicious options for both vegetarians and protein lovers.

“Irvine, I think in Orange County right now, is one of the meccas for Asian food,” said German Fabregas, owner of Marufuku Ramen on Los Olivos Market Place in Irvine.

The traditional Japanese menu includes three ramen to choose from and a variety of Asian-inspired small plates.

“Everything is done with passion and love here,” explained Fabregas.

Favorites include the Hakata-style tonkotsu ramen, which is dipped in rich pork broth and boiled pork belly.

“As soon as you try it, it will create like different emotions,” described Fabregas.

As Orange County treads less restrictive levels, the restaurant invited diners to a private tasting that featured dishes, a beautiful indoor and outdoor dining area.

“It’s been a tough year, you know. We pride ourselves on being opened and only serving our community,” said Fabregas.

“As an Asian myself, I support a vitally important local Asian company,” said Ling Lu from Tustin.

Marafuku Ramen has multiple locations in California – one in Texas. Another new SoCal restaurant will open in Del Mar in spring 2021.

“It just warms your soul; the flavors just pack a punch,” said Glendale food blogger Jeana Viteri. “You’ll just walk away and feel incredibly happy about something you ate and that’s hard to beat.”
