Alan Irvine resigns: West Ham fans react on Twitter

Alan Irvine is stepping down as deputy manager of West Ham United (The Athletic) for personal reasons.

And some Hammers fans are really concerned about the shock announcement.

The Scot has been part of the backroom team put together by David Moyes since he returned to the London Stadium as West Ham boss in December 2019.

Irvine has done admirably and is clearly a man Moyes trusts and respects.

Losing him as our assistant manager will no doubt be a heavy blow to the Hammers.

It has been reported that Irvine will remain with the club in some sort of advisory role.

However, it’s still disappointing considering how much he put into his role.

Alan Irvine news annoys many West Ham fans

Hammer’s boss David Moyes now has to appoint a new number two. It remains to be seen who that will be, but Billy McKinlay is considered a leading candidate for his compatriot’s replacement (Daily Mail).

Some West Ham fans took to Twitter to respond to news that Alan Irvine was stepping down from his role as the club’s assistant manager.

This is not good news, I have to keep this group together

Ah gutted, he is a top trainer!

– Lee (@westhampep) May 26, 2021

This is not good. He is very popular. Respected trainer. Carlton Cole talked about how good he is

The great organizer of the back room, Moye’s Eyes and Ears, is very much respected and missed in the game

Other than Alan Irvine stepping down from his number 2 duties – such a shame. The entire coaching team was brilliant and losing Irvine is a blow.

It’s a shame he won’t be in the underbrush next season when we play in Europe! He helped get us there 👏🏼

Gutting I liked him 😩👎

Typically it’s not buddy. Things start to turn for us and then we lose an excellent number 2.

Gonna be a big, big miss I’m sure Moyes has someone on his mind

We can only wish Irvine all the best and thank him for the wonderful job he has done in his role as assistant manager.

Good luck, Alan!
