According to The Scottish Sun, Aberdeen plans to sign Hibernian midfielder Jackson Irvine and reunite him with Scott Brown.

It is alleged that Hibernian intends to have discussions with Irvine about a new contract for the Easter Road stay.

Aberdeen have now emerged as real contenders for Irvine’s signature as they seek to overtake the roster under new boss Stephen Glass.

Irvine didn’t join Hibs until January after spending the first half of the season as a free agent after being fired from Hull City last summer.

The Australian has registered two assists in 10 league games for Hibs and Aberdeen has apparently seen enough to pursue a deal.

Irvine knows Scott Brown well from their time together at Celtic and could reunite in Aberdeen midfield next season.

Brown should be able to provide a glimpse of what Irvine is like as both a character and a player, even if Irvine only played once for Celtic’s first team.

With Brown and Declan Gallagher on board and Jay Emmanuel-Thomas, Australia international Irvine could join a real squad revolution at Pittodrie.
