A whole bunch attend the Irvine Chinese language Faculty – Orange County Register fundraising live performance

IRVINE – The South Coast Chinese Cultural Association kicked off a $ 1 million fundraiser on Sunday with a concert at the Renée and Henry Segerstrom concert hall.

The concert was the first in a series of events planned to raise funds for improvements at the South Coast Chinese Cultural Center, the Irvine facility where the Irvine Chinese School is located.

Around 1,500 people attended the concert with singer Christine Hsu and the Ju Percussion Group from Taiwan, said Yulan Chung, director of the Irvine Chinese School. The amount of money raised by the event was not immediately available.

The language school is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year. The cultural center was opened in 2005.

Cultural Association officials want to upgrade the facility’s outdoor spaces, including a Chinese garden and an amphitheater where students perform frequently. A modernization of the center’s library is also underway.
